Mistakes to Avoid While Hiring Lawyers in Delhi

I have seen numerous people suffering or being taken advantage of by choosing an inappropriate lawyer for their legal matters. Maybe this was one of the main reasons for me to choose this profession. I being lawyers know how some advocates neglect the cases of their clients for long duration of time which makes the clients feel frustrated.

So here I would like to throw some light on some of the commonest mistakes that should be avoided while hiring the services of lawyers in Delhi.

  • Failing to get a written fee agreement: This is one of the comments mistakes that people make while hiring lawyersIt is very difficult to enforce oral contracts as plenty of essential proofs are required. Another thing is that in the absence of a written agreement it is not easy to be sure that your attorney has understood your expectations. Not only about the fee that is to be charged, but the legal document should also spell out each party’s responsibilities as well as representation parameters. This serves as a protection for you and even for your lawyer. Most Bar Associations encourage and recommend the use of written fee agreements.
  • Failing to read the contract prior to signing: I have seen clients simply signing the contract without even bothering to go through it once. Just because the person who is presenting you the contract is an attorney doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go through it before signing the same.
  • Failing to ask for your copy of the contract: You simply sign the contract and give it back to the attorney. But what are you left with to prove your point if anything goes wrong? So here it becomes important to ask the attorney to provide you with an independent copy of the contract.
